Don't worry, it won't be anything too shady... And please note: everything expressed here is my opinion only, I don't claim to be right or wrong, and none of my comments are directed at any member of this forum.
Ok. Here goes....
I'm a GAMER.
I get REALLY annoyed when people calling themselves 'GAMERS' say "PS3 FTW" or "360 RUL3Z" and then say nothing more on the matter. What's the point in that? If you say you prefer something, tell me why, don't just blurt out your opinion and expect me to take it as fact.
In my opinion someone who calls themselves a 'GAMER' will play games across all consoles and won't exclude themselves the opportunity to play 'exclusive games' from certain consoles.
I respect the fact that I currently own only the XBOX 360 (Elite) out of the 'next generation' consoles, yet I am NOT a 360 Fan-Boy, because I am a GAMER and will play any game in any genre on any platform if I think I will enjoy it. I still play games on the AMIGA. Despite their awful graphics, games from yonder had such extreme playability because not everything was about how the game looks (because every game looked bad and unrealistic). Games had to play well to be successful unlike in today’s industry where games only have to look amazing to sell.
I like the 360 for the following reasons (Note: if I say something here that both consoles have: I KNOW. I'm not saying that the PS3 does or does not have same/similar systems, I am simple stating what I like on the 360, even if the PS3 has it as well):-
The online community, which is larger than the PlayStation Network. Cross-chat on games, party system, messages, SKY (TV) on your Xbox, the ability for the 360 to 'steal' previously exclusive games (MGS, TEKKEN), gamers with headsets that aren't afraid to speak (as opposed to BT HS with the PS3... They are rather expensive, whereas the 360 has a communicator in the box).
Swappable Hard Drives, Memory units, and the ability to move your profile around quick and easy, plus download from XBL.
I prefer the 360 controller to the PS2 controller by a long way. But the 360 and the 6-Axis is a much closer battle, but my preference still sways toward the 360 due to the Analogue thumb-sticks being concave (rounded inwards) rather than convex (rounded outwards). I find my thumbs can negotiate the stick much better this way, plus I prefer the slightly offset location of the sticks. Since the PS3 controller now has triggers as L2+R2, I don’t mind it so much, but I still don’t like the analogue sticks. I find them sloppy and with not enough resistance for my liking. (Yes I have ordered a MC MW2 Combat Controller)
http://www.herdofcats.ca/files/images/M ... roller.jpgI like the idea of Achievements on the 360 (yes I know the PS3 has trophies), but I don’t let them affect me in any way, nor do I play games for the points. If someone thinks they are a better player than me just because their points are higher than mine, then they are dreaming, just as the level of prestige in COD means nothing to real player skill. But still it does add another ‘challenge’ to games; to go back over the same game to get the achievements on a higher difficulty, for example.
Of course I have played quite a lot on a PS3, I just don’t own one, I do however still own a PS2 and a PSP from last-gen. At the end of the day both consoles do some things better than the other one. The PS3 has BLU-RAY, what has the 360 got? Yet I don’t say the 360 runs (red) rings around the PS3 (oh hahahaha - NOT). A the end of the day, when an exclusive game pops up for the PS3 (which will be god of war 3) THEN I will buy one. And be able to watch BLU-RAY, which I will be happy about. My HD-TV has been begging me for BLU-RAY for a while, but I can’t justify the cash on a standalone player when the PS3 is sitting there - cheaper - saying “Ill play games too” - Sold!
At the end of the day neither console is better than the other. Even in specific cross-platform games such as Assassins Creed and Burnout, one console loads the start of the game much faster, and then sucks at loading the map, whereas the other sucks at loading the game, but whilst playing can load much quicker (see link).
http://www.gamepro.com/article/features ... h-updated/Result: NEITHER CONSOLE IS BETTER 100% THAN THE OTHER. Both have games that look better than the other. Both have exclusives. Both consoles break down. Both consoles’ controllers eventually wear out (sigh - I go through one every few months). Both have online (and before you counter my equality argument with ‘XBL costs money where as PS3 is FREE FTW‘, just think that that money partly pays to get DLC quicker to the Xbox than it does to the PS3 (MW2 DLC will be on Xbox before PS3 for example).
BOTH PLAY GAMES. That’s ALL I care about.
And in my opinion, that is all ANY TRUE GAMER should care about too.
